Title: Sensual Men Photographer: Jeff Palmer Publisher: Bruno Gmunder
*** Highly, Highly Recommended ***
Every gay man's library should have a copy of this slick new compilation, if only to be able to while away the dreary hours of winter with more than sixty reproductions of photographer Jeff Palmer's finest works in black and white.
Photography may capture a brief moment in time, but this fine book is a treasure trove of memories yet to come. Men, in singles and pairs, combined with settings ranging from outdoors, in a rainstorm, to inside, snuggled together in a warm bed, make for a sometimes playful, sometimes tender, always sublime look at male beauty.
Though not all the men are completely naked, the eroticism of Palmer's shots is undeniable -- the book practically oozes sex appeal, though not the kind found in other work. Palmer seems to capture the moment just before sex -- or just after. It's sexuality to be sure, but in repose.
There are some recognizable faces and bodies, too -- models Joseph Myska, Tony Ganz, Steve Regis, Jackson Phillips and Thom Collins, among others, will be familiar to most gay men who admire the male form. The real star here is Palmer himself, though, whose talent for bringing out the absolute finest in his models (not to mention his unerring taste in them) shines through in every shot.
Do yourself a favor and give yourself this book for the holidays. And, if you feel generous, maybe a couple for your friends, too!
